Emerging conductor Zach Salsburg-Frank brings vibrant and dynamic performances of opera, orchestral, and choral repertoire to a new generation of music lovers with his unique blend of vocal and orchestral expertise.
Originally from Oakland, California, Zach found his passion for conducting and singing when he joined the GRAMMY Award-winning Pacific Boychoir at age 9. He has been named the Music Director of the Pacific Boychoir Academy for the 2024-25 season.
Zach’s 2023-24 season included conducting the U.S. premiere of Tawnie Olson’s Sanctuary and Storm at the National Opera Association’s national conference and Chandler Opera’s La traviata, assisting Jordan de Souza on the Canadian Opera Company’s La bohème, and assistant conducting Arizona State University’s Le nozze di Figaro. His summer season included joining Opera Saratoga as a Festival Artist to assistant conduct Così fan tutte and conducting opera scenes with Festival Orchestra Napa at Festival Napa Valley.
Zach made his opera debut in Opera McGill’s 2019 production of Die Zauberflöte, singing in the chorus. While completing his undergraduate degree, Zach made his opera conducting debut in Opera McGill’s production of Verdi’s Un Giorno di Regno.
Past engagements include conducting Chandler Opera’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Festival Napa Valley’s inaugural opera scenes program with orchestra, assistant conducting Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera’s La bohème and Opéra de Toulon’s Don Giovanni, serving as an apprentice conductor to Jordan de Souza on Seattle Opera’s production of Tristan und Isolde and to Jim Lowe and Daniela Candillari on Arizona Opera’s Die Zauberflöte and Don Giovanni, and assistant conducting Arizona State University’s La fille du régiment and The Rake’s Progress.
Zach received a Master of Music in Conducting, with an emphasis in opera, from Arizona State University under the tutelage of Brian DeMaris. He received his Bachelor of Music in Voice and Conducting from McGill University, where he studied with mezzo-soprano Annamaria Popescu and conductor Stephen Hargreaves.
